Mercedes Citan 111 CDI Injector & EGR Issues (W415, K9K)
If your Citan 111 CDI is a W415 generation model with the K9K Renault-sourced diesel — that's the 2012 to 2021 production run — injector failure and EGR clogging are well-documented patterns on this engine, backed by general Renault/Mercedes commercial vehicle consensus. We replace injector seals, the EGR valve and timing chain components as standard on every K9K rebuild.
The newer W420 generation Citan doesn't use the K9K engine and falls outside this specific issue — it's covered separately if you have a later van.

The Citan 111 CDI has been part of the Citan range since 2012, and across the W415 generation uses the K9K — a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel sourced from Renault and shared with the Kangoo of the same era. It's a reliable workhorse engine in its own right, but injector failure and EGR clogging are well-documented patterns on the K9K, especially in vans that have spent a lot of time on short urban runs. The Citan 111 CDI was discontinued from the range, but we continue to rebuild and replace engines for every one still on the road.
