If your Viano is a 2003–2014 model with the OM646 4-cylinder diesel — that's the W639 generation — timing chain and injector seal wear is a well-documented pattern on this engine, confirmed by established Mercedes specialist consensus. The Viano 2.2 CDI uses the OM646 — a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel. It was fitted from 2003 to 2014 across the W639 generation. The OM646 is a well-known Mercedes diesel engine used across a range of commercial and passenger models of that era, and its timing chain and injector seal wear pattern is well-documented by specialist workshops.

M256 (R190, 2023–present)
A 3.0-litre inline-six petrol mild-hybrid engine fitted to the VIANO 2.2 CDI from 2023 to present. The M256 features an integrated starter-generator (ISG) and electric auxiliary compressor, making it a more modern and efficient design than the older M276 V6. We replace timing chains, bearings, water pump and gaskets as standard on every M256 rebuild.
