Mercedes GLE350d Swirl Flap & Injector Wear (W166, OM642)
If your GLE350d is a pre-2019 model with the OM642 diesel V6 — that's the W166 generation — swirl flap and injector wear is a well-documented pattern on this engine, backed by multiple manufacturer technical service bulletins. We replace worn swirl flaps, injector seals and the timing chain as standard on every OM642 rebuild.
The newer V167 generation uses a different engine, the OM656, which doesn't share this specific issue — it's a separate, more recent design.

ABOUT THE MERCEDES GLE350D ENGINE
The GLE350d has been part of the GLE-Class range since 2015, when the model was renamed from the M-Class. The earlier W166 generation (2015–2019) uses the OM642 — a 3.0-litre V6 diesel shared across a wide range of Mercedes models of that era. From 2019, the V167-generation GLE350d switched to the OM656, a newer inline-six diesel that's a different unit entirely, not an evolution of the OM642. Knowing which one your car has matters, because the components, the known wear pattern, and even the rebuild specifics differ between them — which is exactly why we confirm your exact engine by registration before quoting.
