ABOUT THE MERCEDES GLE63 AMG ENGINE
The GLE63 AMG has been the flagship performance variant of the GLE-Class range since the GLE nameplate replaced the M-Class in 2015. Across its two generations, it has used two different twin-turbo V8 engines: the earlier W166 generation (2015–2019) uses the 5.5-litre M157, while the current V167 generation (2019–present) uses the 4.0-litre M177 — a smaller but more advanced unit that also appears across the wider Mercedes-AMG range. Both are genuine AMG hand-built engines, and both carry the same specialist rebuild considerations — valve seal wear and coolant system degradation are the key patterns to look for, regardless of which generation you own.
