If your Vito 112/113 CDI is a W639 generation model with the OM646 diesel — that's the 2003–2014 generation — timing chain wear and injector seal leaks are well-documented patterns on this engine, backed by established Mercedes specialist consensus. We replace the timing chain, injector seals and gaskets as standard on every OM646 rebuild.
The older W638 generation and newer W447 generation of Vito use different engines (OM601/OM611 and OM651/OM654 respectively), which don't share this specific issue with the OM646.

ABOUT THE MERCEDES VITO 112 113 CDI ENGINE
The Vito 112/113 CDI was part of the second-generation W639 Vito range, produced from 2003 to 2014. It uses the OM646 — a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine shared across a wide range of Mercedes commercial vehicles of that era, including the Viano and Sprinter. The 112 and 113 designations reflect different power outputs of the same engine family. The Vito 112/113 CDI is no longer in production, but we continue to rebuild and replace engines for every one still on the road.

M256 (R190, 2023–present)
A 3.0-litre inline-six petrol mild-hybrid engine fitted to the VITO 112 113 CDI from 2023 to present. The M256 features an integrated starter-generator (ISG) and electric auxiliary compressor, making it a more modern and efficient design than the older M276 V6. We replace timing chains, bearings, water pump and gaskets as standard on every M256 rebuild.
