What Cylinder Head Repair & Rebuild Involves
- 01
Engine cooled, battery disconnected, coolant and oil drained. All ancillaries, intake, exhaust, turbochargers (where fitted), and timing components are carefully removed. The head is lifted using a fixture after timing is locked.

Valves, springs, retainers, hydraulic lifters, and valve guides are stripped. Each component is inspected and measured against factory tolerances.

Heads are checked for flatness (max 0.1mm warpage) and resurfaced if needed (max 0.2mm removal). Valve seats are machined with 45° + correction angles, guides replaced, and valve-to-seat sealing verified with a vacuum tester.

New valve stem seals, lifters (if required), and all gaskets are fitted. Cylinder head bolts must be replaced — they are torque-to-yield and single-use. Reassembly follows the Mercedes-spec torque sequence with angle-tightening, and timing is reset using factory locking tools.

Our Cylinder Head Rebuild Process — In Detail
- 01
We visually inspect the head and perform a leak test if the engine is still assembled. We assess the extent of work needed: valve guide wear, seat condition, and flatness.

All components are removed and cleaned in a thermal cleaning oven to remove carbon deposits. Valves, guides, and springs are laid out for measurement.

Heads are checked for warpage with a straight edge; resurfaced if within tolerance (max 0.2mm removal). Valve seats are machined to correct angles, and guides are replaced if worn.
